Raise the Morning Star Flag! Peoples of the World, Unite for a Free West Papua!

West Papua Solidarity Month 2025December 1st marks the Global Flag Raising Day of West Papua’s national flag – The Morning Star. On this day in 1961, the flag was first raised in West Papua, before it was occupied by Indonesia.

At present, Papuans are joined by supporters across the world through mass actions and symbolic flag raising activities. Raising the Morning Star in Indonesian territories can result in 15 years of imprisonment with the risk of being tortured and murdered by police and military forces. Despite this, West Papuans will continue to bravely raise their flag to assert their sovereignty and in protest of Indonesian occupation of their lands.In this light, we enjoin our partners, members, network and friends to join us in a strong show of solidarity for West Papua. We are marking the whole month of December as a month of solidarity for a free West Papua, and together let’s spread the hope of the Morning Star Flag around the world.

Hold protest actions, cultural activities, and other creative forms of solidarity while highlighting the significance of the Morning Star flag as a symbol Papuan resistance and liberation.
