Call for Solidarity Action: Free Victor Yeimo!

Victor Yeimo, the international spokesperson of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) and Papuan People's Petition (PRP) was arrested in Jayapura on Sunday, 09 May 2021.

Victor's arrest came amid rising tensions in West Papua, with the Nemangkawi Task Force who carried out the arrest accused the 38-year-old of being the “mastermind” behind the 2019 West Papua Uprising and of committing treason, with 12 charges against him of inciting violence and social unrest, insulting the national flag and anthem, and carrying weapons without a permit. These charges ranged from life to a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.

Held in solitary confinement, Victor has had limited access to his family and lawyer. He has a pre-existing medical condition that requires him to get regular treatment. Sadly, Victor is now experiencing health complications from chest pain to stomach acid and has coughed up blood since his lawyers paid a visit to represent his case in the upcoming pre-trial.

We, the friends and supporters of Victor Yeimo are extremely concerned about his deteriorating health condition and fear of him being at risk of torture or ill-treatment by the Indonesian security forces.
